St Angela's Ursuline School

The main hall roof of this Roman Catholic girls’ school needed urgent attention and Langley’s comprehensive roof condition survey revealed that water ingress was being caused by wind-driven rain, and also that the roof had minimal insulation.

Part of the Diocese of Brentwood, the school was built in 1862, and pupils had been using the flat roof as an elevated playground area. The Langley technical team designed a system to waterproof the roof, conserving the historic fabric of the building, whilst upgrading it to a state of the art, 4G artificial grass football pitch.

Premier Roofing & Construction, a Langley Approved Contractor, skilfully installed Langley’s Graviflex anti-root layer, and additional insulation to improve the thermal efficiency of the building. They took care to create a robust surface for the football pitch with an additional rubber-based layer which also protects the insulation beneath.

Langley’s design ensured that the rainwater drainage from the new roof would be as effective as possible in order to protect the historic building.

In addition, Premier Roofing & Construction also fabricated and affixed a new bespoke safety cage, and replaced the external access stairs, all to a very high standard.

The school now has an innovative new playground area and the thermal performance of the hall has been upgraded to meet building regulations and reduced heating costs. They also have peace of mind knowing that the design, workmanship and materials of the new roof are covered by Langley’s 20 year independent insurance backed guarantee.
